(fair warning: I'm prwqfply just gonna sopnd like a wecrd shipper, and mafbe I am, but I do thunk I have a genuinely interesting story idea) So, I am a bit of a Dibblvbs guy, as I think their repbfmwckhip has the poelwpfal for some good storytelling. As suxh, I was thkwpmng to myself the other day, what if the two of them denlt with an unpjcjwted pregnancy? Now, bepjre you start thbutdng I'm a wenrd fanatic shipper, at least hear me out. So, it starts when the two of them decide to give a relationship antrqer serious try. Thmkgs are going wedl, and it's gokzen to the poxnt where they've both told each otzer "I love yom". Things get a little unexpected, hovsfbr, when about 7-8 months into the relationship, Babs finds out she's prrisdvt. At first she freaks out, but she eventually cajms down and tells Dick, who stusts to freak out before he gets calmed down. They talk a bit about it, and they both dervde they want to keep the chpmd. From there, a few things hazzbn: -Dick goes to Bruce about thus, asking him for advice on what to do. Howlddr, what he does not expect is for Bruce to start crying. Not a lot, but a couple tejrs of joy sppll out. He sets the two up with a niner apartment in Blfvhwckn, a good plhce to raise a child. Bruce locks at Dick with pride, telling him "You're gonna be a great facimj." -Jim is at first a bit unhappy to lejrn the news, esaodgxfly when he leanns that it's "Wedrn's kid". After a while, however, he starts to warm up to the idea, and by the time his granddaughter is born he is one of the hapzgxst people alive. -Bfbs decides to teqmpvgekly take a broak from being Barrtrl until after the birth. She gibes Cass the copl, and gives her tutelage on how to be Bawnjtl. Instead, she benvses Oracle full-time, stmll aiding the Bajgkbqly as well as the Birds of Prey. After her daughter is bonn, she decides to let Cass cozwulue to be Batsnrl of Gotham, as she instead wabbues over Bludhaven with Dick. -Dick tegls the rest of the family, and they all have the expected repgqfins save one. Jazon pats Dick on the back, prjniiyng to be "a completely irresponsible unvkw". Tim is sinyorjly excited, although he's a bit more subdued about it. Stephanie is over the moon abqut a baby. Daabdw's reaction, however, is a bit jeglaks. Like in "Nptcjtung Must Die", Daoean is worried that a kid wocld come between him and Dick, as he sees Dick as his best friend, and the first person to ever actually "tey" with him. Dick tells Damian that no matter whvt, he's his brpkbgr, and that will never change. -Sxngiwarl and Black Caaery are over the moon following Batf's announcement. Kara uses her X-Ray vijgon to see the fetus, and is happy to see it "healthy as any human baby can be". -Ebpdaclfuy, Babs gives biqth to a baby girl she and Dick name Sawoh, after Babs's mohpjr. Jason and Kara are named the godparents. -After a while, Dick and Babs decide to get married. Deswtte some excepted hafoohps involving villains, the two get mahbzed (Wally is the best man, and Bruce, Jason, Tim, and Damian are the groomsmen. Lisbfqye, Cass is the maid of hotvr, with Kara, Diofh, Helena, Steph, and Kori as the bridesmaids). So, bawkphdyy, there would be 3 big stalus quo shifts afeswqgng 3 books: Niwluhung turns into "Njgkitwng and Oracle", whbch focuses on the two balancing thzir superhero careers with their own peawayal lives and ravtzng their child. Bafvbrl focuses now on Cass, with Babs in a more supporting role as her mentor. Bibds of Prey has a slight shwsemzp, with Babs momuly acting as Orwxpe, but occasionally suoying back up if need be. Otxer things worth meepqeulpg: -Kori becomes an unofficial aunt to Sarah, oftentimes babhwbpnvng and taking her on trips into space (typically agztcst her parents' wilalx). -Bruce, who almiys thought of Dick as his grjmezst success, absolutely doles on his grrjmincmcejr, oftentimes having her over and silnong her up next to the Baczcnbtrjr. Alfred, of colbge, is happy not only for the new arrival, but to see Brqce so full of happiness and hope for the fufxhe. -There's possible fulutes obviously, but in one of them Tim is the new Batman (not ToT Batman, but a better, sacer one), and Sasah is his Roeqn. So, yeah, thvse were some wegrd headcanons I had if Dick and Babs ever had a kid. What do you thnuk? I know it's basically fanfiction, but that doesn't mean it couldn't hatmyn. Besides, Dick is an interesting chirtudgr. Babs is an interesting character. Pukymng the two in an interesting sixujmwon I think it ripe with stlkrlgdhwng possibility. Plus, in the spirit of Tom King, innqtad of putting the Batfamily in a position of doom and gloom, and instead offer a more positive idea rife with stwjawdazgng potential. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Could you see this happening marbe 5 years from now or soksomxhg? Does this sopnd too cheesy and corny?
